Brentwood skin care venture raises $30M+
Cressey, NY firm lead investors in company run by ex-HealthMark CEO
A Brentwood-based company that buys and runs dermatology and skin care practices has raised more than $30 million from an investor group led by Cressey & Co. and Apple Tree Partners out of New York. Milt Capps has the story at Venture Nashville on QualDerm Partners, which launched quietly last year and already has stakes in three companies in North Carolina. Leading the company are Bill Southwick, the former Healthmark and Rehab Documentation CEO, as well as Chairman Gene Fleming (formerly of HCA and Cogent Healthcare, among others) and CFO Susan Brownie, who held the same position at Cogent and HealthStream.
Qualderm’s raise comes on the heels of local private-equity firm Pharos Capital buying a majority stake in the Sona MedSpa chain through its new Dermatology and MedSpa Inc. holding. As Capps notes, numerous other notable financial names have picked up on the opportunities in the skin care space.
